The chat window should remember where you put it, yes.

It’ll show in the Chats tab of the main window, and in the title of the chat window, and the chat tab will be coloured.

Not quite sure what you’re asking here. You can interact with your XMPP account through SDKs (e.g. Swiften, Stroke), but not the Swift client instance itself.
